Originally, this was supposed to be a letter to stuff into a Christmas card.  That card should have had these pictures on it (click on the pics to see them bigger):

However, that card never materialized.  So I’m posting this here.

Here’s what happened with the Dylan family in 2010:

Future Punk Rocker

This is an actual conversation that Ruby and I had this morning.  She was coloring Sleeping Beauty’s hair pink while singing:

Ruby (singing):

You just don’t understand

You don’t understand

What I say

Yeah Yeah!

Daddy:  I like your song, Ruby.

Ruby:  No you don’t!

(singing again):

You just don’t understand

you don’t understand

What I say

Yeah yeah!

Daddy:  I like that song.

Ruby:  I don’t want you to say that!

Daddy:  Ok, I don’t like that song.

Ruby (under her breath):  That’s right, you don’t.

License to Drive

November 17th, 2010 posted by Daddy Posted in Beebo No Comments »

Yesterday morning we were getting ready to go to preschool and Ruby decided she didn’t want to sit in her carseat.  She asked me if she could drive.

Me:  No, I’m sorry, Ruby.  Little kids can’t drive cars.

Ruby:  But I’m a big kid.  Eme’s little.

Me:  Only grown-ups can drive cars, because only grown-ups have driver’s licenses.

Ruby:  What’s a driver’s license?

[I show her my driver’s license, explain that this is why I’m allowed to drive and that only grown-ups can get these]

Ruby:  But I can just ask Santa Claus for one.

Me:  I don’t think Santa Claus brings driver’s licenses for Christmas.

Ruby:  But I can just ask him for one.  I’m going to ask Santa Claus for a driver’s license for Christmas.

Me:  Don’t get your hopes up.

Ruby:  We’ll see, Daddy.  We’ll see.

Movie Night

November 6th, 2010 posted by Daddy Posted in Beebo No Comments »

It was dark, rainy and cold this afternoon so we decided to watch a movie in the living room.  Ruby was very insistent on what we needed to watch a movie:

  1. Popcorn
  2. Halloween candy
  3. water
  4. A blanket on the floor to sit on
  5. close all the curtains
  6. turn off all the lights

When we were all set up I said, “wow, Ruby, great job.  Now we can watch a movie just like at the movie theater.”

Ruby:  It’s not called a movie theater.  It’s called a movie feether.

Me:  A movie feeder?

Ruby:  Movie feether.

Me:  A movie feether?

Ruby:  Moo

Me:  Moo

Ruby:  Vee

Me:  Vee

Ruby:  Fee

Me:  Fee

Ruby: Ther

Me:  Ther

Ruby:  Movie Feether.

And so we had a very pleasant afternoon sitting on our blanket in our living room “movie feether” eating popcorn and candy, drinking our water and watching “Land Before Time V:  The Mysterious Island.”
